Air Products (NYSE: APD) and Yara International (OSE: YAR), a global leader in crop nutrition and ammonia production, are collaborating to combine Air Products' capabilities in industrial gases and low-emission hydrogen with Yara's ammonia production and distribution network. Air Products is developing the world's largest low-carbon energy complex in Louisiana. Designed to produce over 750 million standard cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen per day, the complex will capture 95% of the carbon dioxide (CO₂) generated during normal operations. Air Products, as the project developer, will see Yara acquire the ammonia production, storage, and transportation facilities for approximately 25% of the total estimated investment cost (estimated at $8–9 billion) once the ammonia plant achieves agreed-upon performance. Yara will be responsible for the related operations and will integrate all ammonia production into its global distribution network. Air Products will own and operate the industrial gas production facilities, supplying approximately 80% of the low-carbon hydrogen to Yara under a 25-year long-term offtake agreement for the annual production of 2.8 million tons of low-carbon ammonia. The remaining hydrogen will be supplied to U.S. Gulf Coast customers via Air Products' 700-mile-long hydrogen pipeline. Approximately 5 million tons per year of high-purity CO₂ captured from Air Products' facilities will be sequestered by a third party under a long-term agreement. The partners' final investment decision is planned for mid-2026, with project completion expected in 2030.
