 The global high-purity gas industry recently achieved a significant milestone: INOX Air Products will supply high-purity nitrogen for solar cell production. The Indian industrial gas company INOX Air Products will provide ultra-high-purity nitrogen to a new 3 GW solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing base in Madhya Pradesh. This production facility will be operated by Grew Energy, the flagship solar module business of the Chiripal Group. According to the agreement, INOX Air Products will construct a dedicated pipeline network from its existing air separation unit in Narmadapuram to ensure a continuous supply of ultra-high-purity nitrogen. In the photovoltaic cell manufacturing process, nitrogen is used to create a protective inert atmosphere, preventing oxidation and contamination during high-temperature production stages. As India aims to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, the stable supply of high-purity gases is becoming increasingly critical. The transition to larger silicon wafers and more complex cell structures means that photovoltaic production lines require larger quantities of nitrogen to maintain a clean, oxygen-free manufacturing environment. In the previous fiscal year, India’s solar cell manufacturing capacity nearly tripled, reaching approximately 25 GW.
